Age no barrier to jockey Martin
Great-grandmother Sue Martin rode a winner at Tampa Bay Downs racecourse in Florida at the age of 62 on Sunday.
Action from Tampa Bay Downs
Martin, who reportedly had her first ride in 1973, recording her first victory the following year, steered the mare Blue Haze Of Fire, who is trained by her husband, Wayne, to a surprise success in a claimer.
That was a first win since 2014 for Martin, who has seven children, 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A devout Christian, she told the Paulick Report: "I didn't know how she would like going a mile (and 40 yards), but she's been training really well.
"The Lord keeps putting me together – I've broken every bone in my body, I have a titanium leg and I have a plate and screws in my arm. I just follow the lead of the Lord and try to be obedient.
"I don't want to retire, and I think I have the mount back on Blue (Haze Of Fire)."
