Alexios on course for rematch

Alexios Komnenos is set to renew rivalry with Churchill in the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on September 11.

Alexios Komnenos: Set to take on Churchill again.

The Tommy Stack-trained youngster ran Aidan O'Brien's charge to a neck in the Group Three Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown after springing a 50/1 surprise on his debut at the Curragh in June.

Churchill boosted the form when winning the Group Two Futurity Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, after which O'Brien named the Group One National Stakes as the next target for a horse he described as a "Guineas-type".

"He's getting on well and the plan is to go to the National Stakes with him," said Fozzy Stack, assistant to his father.

"He ran a great race last time and it looks like we'll have to take Churchill on again anyway. It's all good with him, he seems well."
