Altior faces six in Game Spirit

Odds-on Racing Post Arkle favourite Altior will face six rivals in Saturday's Game Spirit at Newbury.

Altior will bid to confirm his status as the standout two-mile chaser in Britain

Now known as the Betfair Exchange Chase, this Grade Two has been won by the likes of Master Minded, Well Chief and Sprinter Sacre in the past, and Altior will start favourite in his bid to join them.

Heading the opposition is Fox Norton, an impressive winner of both starts since he joined Colin Tizzard's thriving operation, while former Champion Chase winner Dodging Bullets is set to line up for Paul Nicholls.

Of Dodging Bullets, Nicholls said: "He ran in it last year but is obviously not the horse he was. Altior is the one to beat but old Dodge always runs well.

"He's a funny horse because he did well over hurdles but he was never a star and the first year he went chasing he was okay, ran fourth in the Arkle, but the year after that he ended up winning those three Grade Ones, winning the Champion Chase and got to a level that he's not achieved before or since.

"Sometimes horses do do that. He looks great at the moment but he's obviously not quite what he was. He'll run on Saturday because he's hard to place now and then I suspect at Cheltenham he'll end up running in the Grand Annual, dropping back to a handicap."

Garde La Victoire steps back up in grade following his victory in a Sandown handicap, with Gino Trail, Module and the long-absent Traffic Fluide completing a seven-runner field.
