LAST YEAR's impressive Nunthorpe Stakes winner Mecca's Angel is proving popular with punters ahead of Friday's Group 1 at York and is challenging ante-post favourite Limato at the head of the market.
July Cup winner Limato had been a top price of 7-2 on Friday morning while Mecca's Angel was generally 6-1 and as big as 13-2 in a place.
However, with rain forecast to hit the Knavesmire before racing, which would be in the favour of Mecca's Angel, the pair are now locked together at the head of the betting on Betfair and are both trading at a shade above 4-1 (5.2).

Rain on its way
Connections of Mecca's Angel have been keen to keep her away from racing on a firm surface and trainer Michael Dods had even suggested that the star mare was an unlikely runner if York missed the rain.
While no rain had arrived at York by 11.30am, assistant clerk of the course Anthea Morshead suggested that could change. She tweeted: "Still dry @yorkracecourse but band of rain just to west of us. Will update again before racing."
The Racing Post's Lee Mottershead, who is working live from the track, reported that the rain started to fall at 11.45am.
Cookies price could also crumble
Another horse likely to benefit should conditions deteriorate is Clever Cookie, who runs in the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup.
Clever Cookie won the Yorkshire Cup on good to firm ground in May but is extremely effective with cut in the ground and has been trimmed slightly into 7-2 joint-favourite, having been available to back at around the 4-1 earlier in the day.
