IT WAS a battle of the Frankel fillies in the SkyBet Lowther Stakes at York on Thursday, and it was the lesser fancied Queen Kindly that came out on top.
Fair Eva tasted defeat for the first time on her third start, but while trainer Roger Charlton was disappointed with her performance on the Knavesmire, he expects an improvement when she steps up to 7f on her next outing.
The filly has plenty of options over an increased distance, holding entiries in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh and the Group 2 Shadwell Rockfell Stakes at Newmarket.
Charlton said: “I thought Fair Eva ran below expectations, but nothing untoward has come to light. The plan is to run again this season, but at seven furlongs. I think six furlongs was definitely too sharp for her.”
Meanwhile, Charlie Appleby believes her Lowther Stakes conqueror, the Richard Fahey-trained Queen Kindly, will take all the beating in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on September 24.
When asked for a horse to follow in the Monday Jury, Charlie Appleby said: “I would go for Queen Kindly who I think will take all the beating in the Cheveley Park. But I would also be very interested to see Fair Eva when she steps up in trip.”
The Jury in Monday’s Racing Post also features John O’Connell from Sporting Index, William Twiston-Davies, Hugo Palmer and Tim Easterby as they pass their judgement on the previous week’s racing.
