Arran’s Ascot Gold Cup option
A decision on the participation of Prince Of Arran in the Ascot Gold Cup will be made closer to the time, according to trainer Charlie Fellowes.
The four-year-old looked a stayer with potential after he came home strongly to finish second in the Sagaro Stakes at the Berkshire track last Wednesday.
But Fellowes said: "He won't run before Ascot and whether he runs at Ascot in the Gold Cup I am not 100 per cent sure yet.
"There are a lot of nice staying races in the second half of the season for him.
"If the owners want him to go there then it is my job to do what is best for the owners, and I would be more than happy to train him for the Gold Cup.
"It is a big ask for a four-year-old in the Gold Cup, but I liked the way he ran the other day and he probably finished better than anything else.
"We have the rest of the month to think about the Gold Cup so no decision will be made for a while.
"The owners are from Dubai and the long-term goal is to run in the stayers' race (Dubai Gold Cup) on World Cup Night in Dubai.
"That is the primary target next year and it could be used as a starting point for a possible Gold Cup tilt then."
