Arrogate: set to go off a short-priced favourite for the Dubai World Cup

THE world's top-rated racehorse Arrogate is on course to grace Meydan on Saturday after featuring among the 14 declared for the Dubai World Cup, which for the third successive year will be without a runner from Britain or Ireland.

The Mike de Kock-trained Mubtaahij, second to California Chrome last year, leads the challenge to Arrogate and is joined by Gun Runner and Hoppertunity in the Emirates-sponsored showpiece.

Saeed Bin Suroor, the most successful trainer in Dubai World Cup history with seven victories, relies on Move Up, who won the Cumberland Lodge at Ascot last October, while Ryan Moore has been booked to ride Lani, one of four Japanese contenders along with Apollo Kentucky, Awardee, Gold Dream.

There is a strong British and Irish presence – including Big Orange, Heartbreak City and Sheikhzayedroad – in the Dubai Gold Cup after 13 were declared to take on likely favourite Vazirabad.

Last year's winner Postponed adds the star quality to the Dubai Sheema Classic, for which Aidan O'Brien has declared Highland Reel and Seventh Heaven in a seven-strong field.

Henry Candy's stable star Limato has been set the challenge of eclipsing course record-holder Ertijaal in the Al Quoz Sprint, while Ribchester (Richard Fahey), Mutakayyef (William Haggas) and Decorated Knight (Roger Charlton) give Britain a strong hand in the Dubai Turf.
