Ascot hero Commissioned retired

Royal Ascot winner Commissioned has been retired.

The seven-year-old won last year's Queen Alexandra Stakes on his first start for Gordon Elliott after previously being trained by John Ferguson.

Commissioned, who ran in the colours of Nick Bradley Racing, was then upped to Group Two level in the Goodwood Cup but sustained an injury in the race and has not run since.

With Elliott unable to get Commissioned back to full fitness, connections have now decided to retire him.

"It was a niggly little problem really," said Nick Bradley, managing director of the owning syndicate.

"We actually put him through a sales ring as he might have made it back to the track.

"He'll be retired over in Ireland where he was trained and will enjoy life.

"You don't need a Royal Ascot winner to put you on the map in this game, but it certainly helps, that is for sure."
