MOVE UP did just that in the estimations of many when battling bravely to win the Cumberland Lodge under a tenacious William Buick for Saeed Bin Suroor.
Early in the home straight he led, only to be passed by the much bigger Arab Spring. That appeared to be that, with the 7-2 favourite Arab Spring looking set to continue his surge for the final two furlongs and delight his backers.
But the favourite's run faltered. While he didn't fade he certainly lost impetus and that was all the invitation Move Up needed as he came back up the inside to win by a neck.
"He likes this ground and is a horse with a progressive profile and he has the right attitude," said Buick of the three-year-old who carried 5lb less than the runner-up. "Saeed has always been keen on him but he was not quite right in the middle of the summer when beaten at Goodwood."
Ballymacoll Stud's Peter Reynolds said: "It was just the weight really. We were very happy with him and we couldn't really blame the ground. He's brave and it's just the weight.
"He has a foreign entry alright [in the Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club at San Siro on October 16] but we'll talk to Sir Michael. We'll have to stop at some stage with him as he's six."
