JAMES DOYLE is contemplating extending his unexpected stay in Australia for Godolphin after riding a double at Rosehill on Saturday.

Doyle, 28, has replaced James McDonald after the Kiwi rider was stood down pending an inquiry into alleged involvement in placing a bet on the John O'Shea-trained Astern last year.

After riding for the first time at Canterbury on Wednesday, Doyle, who has been granted a six-month working visa, celebrated victory aboard O'Shea's Trekking and Malice at the weekend.

Doyle told Racing.com: "If it was the case that I was asked to stay a bit longer, I'd certainly have to sit down and have a good think about it. Godolphin have a wonderful stock of horses down here, some proper Group 1 contenders and the prize-money is fantastic as well.

"I jumped at the opportunity to come out here because not many European jockeys have had the chance to come here and ride some proper horses."

Waller colt tested positive

Racing New South Wales stewards have confirmed the Chris Waller-trained colt Betcha Thinking has returned a positive swab for methamphetamine – also known as ice.

Initial tests proved the then-maiden, who has since won at Canterbury, tested positive for the substance in a post-race urine sample taken after finishing second at the same track on October 5 for Waller, trainer of star mare Winx.

Similar cases last year involving Victorian trainer Matt Laurie, who avoided a penalty, and Scone trainer Luke Griffith, disqualified for four years, were determined to have come from human-to-horse contact, while a case involving John McNair was suspected of being a deliberate act by someone outside the stable with the trainer fined $15,000.

Racing NSW will now commence an inquiry, starting at 10am on Friday morning.
