Godolphin's number one rider in Australia, who enjoyed a successful spell in Britain in the summer, stood himself down last month after he was charged with betting on, or being involved in a bet on his mount Astern when winning at Randwick on December 5 last year.

Stewards have reviewed financial, wagering and communication records and have requested to speak to a number of related parties, including McDonald and the Sydney-based punter Anthony Gardiner, with the latter yet to respond on Monday.

McDonald's woes have provided James Doyle with the chance to spend the winter in Australia as he took over riding duties at the powerful Godolphin stable.

Doyle, who was granted a six-month working visa, is already contemplating extending his stay should the opportunity arise after he made a strong start to his stint with a Rosehill double earlier this month.
