Aux Ptits Soins excites Nicholls

The 2015 Coral Cup winner Aux Ptits Soins is set to start his novice chasing career following a truncated campaign last season.

Aux Ptit Soins is set to start his chasing career

The highly regarded son of Saint Des Saints has only managed two starts in Britain since being purchased from France by John Hales 'for the Gold Cup'.

Hales has never won chasing's blue riband but following Aux Ptits Soins' Cheltenham Festival success spoke of his hopes that 'this is the one for it maybe in two or three years' time'.

The grey landed something of a gamble when winning the Coral Cup on his debut for the yard but last year proved a write off as he didn't reappear until the Festival where he finished fifth of 12 in the World Hurdle, some 40 lengths behind Thistlecrack.

"It was a nightmare last year, a complete nightmare," Nicholls explained.

"He had a fractured tooth and it kept fracturing and he had a sinus and he had three lots of surgery so it was always an uphill battle to get to Cheltenham. You imagine having three lots of surgery and then expect to play football in a month's time. It didn't happen.

"He's a different horse now and we'll go novice chasing with him. He's schooled already and is a proper horse.

"I'll start him over two miles and work upwards, he's not short of pace."
