UNBEATEN juvenile South Seas will put the finishing touches to his preparations for the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes on Wednesday morning, with trainer Andrew Balding hoping he can cement his Classic credentials in Saturday’s Group 1 at Newmarket.
A perfect three from three, South Seas is second only to ante-post Qipco 2,000 Guineas and Investec Derby favourite Churchill in the betting for the Dewhurst, with bet365 a standout 5-1 about Qatar Racing’s exciting two-year-old – the firm make Churchill their 4-7 favourite.
"It's the number one two-year-old race of the year but we’re going there with an unbeaten horse who has done everything we've asked him to do," said Balding. "We'll find out a lot on Saturday I'm sure but he did a really nice piece of work on Thursday and I couldn’t be happier with him."

South Seas is a best-price 20-1 with Betway for the 2,000 Guineas and, win, lose or draw in the Dewhurst, is unlikely to run again this season.
Balding said: "He's a lovely horse and physically he should be even better next year so he’s one to look forward to."
Poet's ready for Newmarket
Stablemate Poet’s Vanity, a ten-length scorer at Salisbury last month, is also on target for Newmarket, where she steps up to Group 3 company for the visionsport.com Oh So Sharp Stakes on Friday.
"She's a lovely filly and I was impressed with her at Salisbury," said Balding. "She's come on well for that and the track will suit her well."
Montaly, a general 20-1 chance, is the stable’s big hope for Saturday’s Betfred Cesarewitch, although Balding is keeping a close eye on conditions at Newmarket, where the ground was yesterday described as good, good to firm in places.
"He ran well at Haydock and the Cesarewitch has always been the target but we wouldn't dare run him on anything faster than good ground," said the trainer.
