DAN MCGRUE, winner of a Roscommon bumper on his debut this month, topped the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot August Sale on Tuesday when snapped up Richard Barber for £60,000.
The four-year-old son of Dansant was trained by John Nicholson, whose Seven Sisters Stables consigned him to the auction.
Juvenile winner Azhar was the day's second top lot, having been purchased by Ebor Bloodstock, the banner under which Matt Sigsworth and his sister Kate operate, for £42,000.
The three-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel was consigned by Godolphin and is currently rated 84 on the Flat having finished down the field in a fillies' handicap at Pontefract on her most recent start.
Originally a 210,000gns Tattersalls December foal purchase, she won a Kempton maiden last year in smart fashion for Saeed Bin Suroor.
Out of the unraced Indian Ridge mare Nitya, Azhar is from the family of Breeders' Cup Mile hero Domedriver.
Matt Sigsworth said: "She's been bought as a breeding prospect to be covered next year for an existing client. Azhar was the standout in the sale for us – she's a lovely individual and has a good pedigree with plenty going on.
"We're delighted to have got her, she was the one we went for and thankfully we got her. The client is delighted too. The stallion she'll visit will be decided at a later date."
At the end of the trade 85 lots had sold for a total of £448,900, up 30 per cent on last's year total when Brightwells were conducting sales at Ascot. The average rose 30 per cent to £5,281, while the median dropped to £2,000.
