Barters Hill: Will go chasing at Cheltenham on Friday

Trainer Ben Pauling had been favouring waiting until Newbury's Hennessy Gold Cup meeting next weekend, but significant overnight rain in the Cotswolds means he can finally take the wraps off his stable star.

Barters Hill lost his unbeaten record in the Albert Bartlett last March but went down all guns blazing in fourth.

"We've basically decided this morning that he's going to run and it's something of a relief for us all, I must say," said Pauling.

"It was getting to be a tad frustrating with the ground but thankfully it has rained. We really weren't considering Cheltenham in truth as it looked as if it was going to be too quick, but they got more rain than forecast and now the ground will be beautiful.

"He schooled fantastically well this morning and that was the deciding factor. It couldn't have gone any better and David (Bass) was delighted with him."
