Bentley chasing Turkey glory
Harry Bentley is hoping for another big pay-day in Veliefendi on Sunday, when he rides Diplomat in the highlight of the Turkey International Races, the Topkapi Trophy.
Harry Bentley: Hoping for glory in Turkey this weekend
Bentley, who rode Godolphin's Local Time to win the Istanbul Trophy at the meeting last year, said: "Diplomat won one of the big races in Italy, the Premio Presidente Della Repubblica in May, a repeat of which would give him a real chance and is in the care of the leading German trainer Mario Hofer.
"I have ridden in Germany many times, including for Mario, and am delighted to keep my links going there.
"There are only six runners and €270,000 on offer to the winner so it looks a great opportunity.
"I also ride Mark Johnston's Mailshot, who was not beaten far at Glorious Goodwood last time, in the six-furlong €195,000 Trakya Trophy for two-year-olds and Kao Kat Mfh in the Arabian race, the Malazgirt Trophy."
Offering insight into the conditions, Bentley added: "The racecourse is a lovely big right-handed track. It's a very fair course because there is long straight and you have loads of time to get a position and sort yourself out.
"The prize money is clearly great and, as I remember, the Turkish racegoers were very loud. I also recall it being extremely hot 12 months ago and it is likely to be similar."
Racing UK will be showing the International Races from Veliefendi on Sky 432/Virgin 536/Freeview 231.
