Bets Of The Day: Mitchum Swagger to strut his stuff
Last Voyage should go very close in this interesting contest.
This colt by Wood Memorial winner Eskendereya was knocked down to John Ferguson for $335k at the Gulfstream Park breeze-up sales in March. He worked a furlong in a very quick 10.2 seconds without being seriously encouraged. His dam Shipboard Romance was unraced, but is related to plenty of winners. There is enough speed in the pedigree to suggest he will be competitive at this distance, and should be ready at first asking. The stable is going well at the moment and it is no surprise to see him trading at [2.38] on the exchange.
Last Page looks like the main danger. He was caught right on the line when finishing second to Chagatai at Bath last month after missing the break. At present he is trading at [4.8] on the exchange.
Mitchum Swagger is my idea of the winner of the Listed race.
This gelding finished fifth to Sovereign Debt at Sandown last month. He ran on well in the closing stages, but failed to land a blow behind the game winner. I thought that was a promising effort and is entitled to move forward. I think he is sitting on a big effort, and is fairly priced at [4.6] on the exchange.
Jallota finished ahead on the selection at Sandown but is 5lb worse off today. I think he will have his work cut out to confirm the form.
Firmament finished third to Tabarrak at Ascot earlier this month and is likely to improve for the outing.
