Bets Of The Day: Silent Assassin to put rivals to the sword
14:45 Thirsk – Silent Assassin
Silent Assassin should go close in this interesting maiden.
This Shamardal colt created a favourable impression on debut when finishing second to Tis Marvellous at Windsor last month. He was outpaced in the early stages, but kept on in good style inside the final furlong and finished the race with good energy. I thought that was an excellent first effort and is entitled to move forward today.
He is trading at [3.05] on the exchange and I have backed him at that price.
Ann Duffield sends out Peach Pavlova. This filly was caught right on the line by Hemmingway at Pontefract last month. She sets a fair standard, but I think the selection has a lot more scope for improvement.
17:30 Windsor – Smokey Lane
Smokey Lane should be able to get off the mark at the fourth time of asking.
This filly has contested Listed company on her last two starts and has raced creditably. Her best effort to date was her second to The Last Lion at Sandown at the beginning of July. She ran on really well in the closing stages, but could never get to grips with the easy winner.
I think this race is at her mercy and is fairly priced at [2.2] on the exchange.
Sun Angel is the clear second choice at [3.65]. She finished fifth to Rhododendron at Goodwood last month and is clearly heading in the right direction. She should run well, but I think the selection is a cut above this group.
