CHANTILLY's famous Piste des Reservoirs received an unwelcome delegation at the end of last week when a hungry party of wild boar went burrowing for food.

France Galop staff chased the scavengers away but the clear-up following their nocturnal activities has required the temporary closure of a section of the gallop.

"The damage is only superficial and covers 1,500 square metres of the track," reported Chantilly supremo Mathieu Vincent. "But we have had to close that part of the track. Since we chased the five boar off, I can tell you they haven't come back."

A fellow custodian of his country's Derby track, Epsom clerk of the course Andrew Cooper tweeted his support for Vincent's team, saying: "We get the odd problem with foxes and badgers at Epsom but see what wild boars have done to this Chantilly gallop."

A boar's head happens to adorn the wall of the Salon Katko in Chantilly, the frequent venue of media conferences hosted by France Galop before major races.

The visitors have been warned!
