Breton strikes for Value Bet

Value Bet selection Breton Rock (7/2) powered home to win the Saint Gobain Weber Park Stakes at Doncaster from The Happy Prince.

Breton Rock came from almost last to win the Park Stakes

David Simcock's six-year-old was held-up in rear and had to weave his way through the whole field in the seven furlong Group Two and got up on the line.

Toormore had taken the field along but cried enough with well over a furlong to run allowing The Happy Prince to take over at the head of affairs.

It looked for much of the final furlong that Aidan O'Brien's runner would take the honours but Breton Rock, with Andrea Atzeni, successful on Rivet in the Champagne Stakes that opened the card, in full drive, gradually began to eat into his advantage.

The leader wavered close home as Breton Rock snatched victory on the line by a short-head to give his trainer a second big-race triumph in successive days after Sheikhzayedroad in the Doncaster Cup.

Adaay finished half a length away in third.

Atzeni said: "Dave said let him be himself early on and he'd pick up. He was always going to get there.

"I had a lot of horses in front of me, but he only needed the gap to come."

Simcock said: "He's an absolute star, a pleasure to train. He gives his owner a lot of pleasure.

"He finished sixth in the Lockinge on good ground and it being loose here helped him, the rain that came at 11am was massive. His run last week put him spot on for this.

"He came off the bridle after three and a half furlongs, but when he gave him a squeeze he came back on it. Andrea is very professional and has always done me a favour."

Simcock added: "When they were reporting good to firm in places yesterday I wasn't a happy man.

"I was delighted with him last weekend at Haydock, it was over mile and he had a 4lb penalty.

"I love the older horses, they are a pleasure to train."
