Briery Queen lands mares’ money

Barry Geraghty steered Briery Queen to a comfortable success in the closing OLBG Mares' Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Noel Williams' seven-year-old was making her seasonal reappearance and she appeared to be as fresh as paint, always travelling well off the pace set by On Demand.

Charlie Deutsch gave the latter, 4lb out of the handicap not including her jockey's claim, a peach of a ride from the front and the 33-1 shot was still in there with a chance at the last.

However, Geraghty cut a confident figure in the descending gloom and he shook up Briery Queen who strode clear for a convincing success.

On Demand held on for second from the staying on Debdebdeb who finished well for third.
