Buick: More to come from Blue

Blue Point ridden by jockey William Buick

William Buick was impressed by Blue Point's win at Ascot on Wednesday and believes it was the perfect trial for next month's Commonwealth Cup at the Royal meeting.

The Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old broke the track record when beating Harry Angel, who was carrying a 4lb penalty, in the Group Three Pavilion Stakes after posting some fine efforts as a juvenile last term.

The leading protagonists are all likely to lock horns once again in the relatively new Commonwealth Cup, a Group One over six furlongs restricted to the Classic crop.

"He did it well, he was nice and relaxed and did everything the right way," Buick told At The Races.

"Obviously his performance was impressive, but going ahead and looking forward to the rest of the season, it is important they do things the right way around.

"It was a good starting point and now he'll go back there for the Commonwealth. It was a good start to the year."
