Burke eager to team up with Tizzard
Leading Irish jockey Jonathan Burke is looking forward to teaming up with Colin Tizzard this season.
Jonathan Burke: Will be riding in these silks for Colin Tizzard
The trainer of popular chaser Cue Card and last season's star staying hurdler Thistlecrack, Tizzard is the beneficiary of Colm Murphy's shock decision to retire, with leading owners Alan and Ann Potts moving all the horses based with the multiple Grade One-winning trainer from Ireland to Dorset.
Among the new arrivals are Sizing Granite, winner of the Maghull Novices' Chase at Aintree last year, Bally Longford and Viconte Du Noyer.
As retained rider for the Potts, Burke looks set to be in action on British soil on a more regular basis this winter.
He said: "He's (Colin) delighted to have the horses as they're an exciting bunch and I'm going over on Wednesday to have a look (at Tizzard's yard).
"There are Grade One horses like Sizing Granite, the middle type horses and also a good bunch of young horses. We'll see how things work out as the season progresses, but Ann and Alan will always be first and foremost and I'll ride their horses first.
"We'll see how the season progresses but I'm looking forward to it.
"I've never ridden for Colin in the past but was actually supposed to ride a horse for him in a sales bumper when I was an amateur, but the horse didn't run – that was for the same owner as Cue Card."
