Burrows on weather watch

Owen Burrows is keeping is fingers crossed for a spell of dry weather to allow Talaayeb to take her chance in the Lord Weinstock Memorial EBF Stallions Stakes at Newbury on June 15.

The Lambourn handler plans to step the daughter of Dansili up to 10 furlongs provided conditions are right in the event which is better known as the Ballymacoll Stud Stakes.

After making a winning debut at Newmarket last September, the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned filly made an encouraging seasonal return at the track last month when fourth in the 1000 Guineas.

Burrows said: "Touch wood, she goes there. It is supposed to be wet on Thursday and the long range forecast says that is it then, so fingers crossed it will dry out and we will get some nice fast ground.

"She appreciated that bit of summer for about a week and enjoyed that bit of sun on her back. I am very pleased with her and she is in good form.

"Sheikh Hamdan was keen for her to get a win in a black type race and we need to try her over 10 furlongs. Newbury is a nice track to do that on."
