Buveur D’Air rerouted to Warwick

Haydock's loss is Warwick's gain as Nicky Henderson's top-class prospect Buveur D'Air is a pleasing addition to Saturday's card.

Henderson had declared the Grade One-winning hurdler, who now runs in the JP McManus silks, for a three-runner event in Merseyside on Friday.

But with Haydock's meeting abandoned due to frost, Henderson had the foresight to give him an alternative engagement in a two-mile novice chase at Warwick.

The Seven Barrows handler said: "We've had to reroute him, which is a bit of a pain, but I'm desperate to get more experience into him before the weather properly turns.

"He looked very good at Haydock, beating a nice horse (Cloudy Dream), but we were getting 8lb.

"Aidan Coleman was very impressed with him that day and thankfully Aidan is available for Warwick.

"We've done very little with him since then, it was only two weeks ago.

"It's all about getting experience into him but it won't be a walkover."

While the Haydock event looked no more than a walk in the park, Buveur D'Air faces some decent opponents at Warwick.

Kerry Lee's Gino Trail was a revelation at Haydock in the fog recently, winning by six lengths, while the Philip Hobbs-trained Gala Ball found only the potentially smart A Hare Breath too good on his chasing debut at Bangor.

The field is completed by Paul Webber's Alfiboy, off the track for over 600 days, and the Richard Price-trained What's Up Rory.

All of the action from Newbury and Warwick on New Year's Eve will be free to view on Racing UK, following Channel 4's decision to withdraw the fixture from its schedule. The Newbury card, which is headlined by the Grade One Betfred Challow Hurdle, plus seven competitive races from Warwick, will be free to watch in over 13 million homes on Sky 432 and Virgin 536. In addition, Racing UK will stream the live coverage on www.racinguk.com at no cost. Coverage gets under way at 10.30am with the Mark Your Card preview programme, with live racing from 11.30am.
