Buveur flies flag for Henderson

Brain Power was a surprise omission from the Betfred-sponsored Contenders Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday.

Brain Power: Won't run at Sandown

Trainer Nicky Henderson has decided to give this Listed contest a miss with the impressive Ascot handicap hurdle winner because of the very soft ground.

He tweeted: "Brain Power will NOT run @Sandownpark tomorrow due to the ground."

The Seven Barrows handler will instead rely upon Buveur D'Air, who reverts to the smaller obstacles after winning both his starts over fences in December.

Buveur D'Air, who defeated last weekend's Irish Champion Hurdle hero Petit Mouchoir at Aintree last season, represents owner JP McManus after his Yanworth was not among the four final declarations following a minor setback earlier in the week.

Irving will try to get back on track after falling at Haydock two weeks ago.

The Paul Nicholls-trained nine-year-old made a successful seasonal reappearance in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle in November.

Oliver Sherwood saddles Rayvin Black, who was runner-up in this race 12 months ago, while the Brian Barr-trained Hurry Henry completes the quartet.
