Buywise could go back hurdling
Entries close on Tuesday for one of the highlights of next month's International meeting at Cheltenham, the £100,000 Grade Three Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, on Saturday December 10.
Oh Buywise (red cap) – when will the cards all fall right for you?
Trainer Evan Williams is planning on making three entries in the extended two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase – Buywise, King's Odyssey and On Tour.
Buywise has been a regular in Cheltenham's top handicap chases over the past few seasons, winning the Silver Trophy and finishing runner-up and third in the latest two renewals of the BetVictor Gold Cup. He was also fourth in this race in 2015
King's Odyssey is also a winner at Cheltenham, having taken the Timeform Novices' Handicap Chase on Festival Trials Day in January this year. He recently returned to action at Haydock Park on November 18 when third in a graduation chase, while On Tour was runner-up in a valuable handicap chase at Aintree on his seasonal return on November 5.
Williams, who is based at Llancarfan in the Vale of Glamorgan, said on Monday: "The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup is 100 per cent the aim for King's Odyssey. As I told everyone, it was a prep run at Haydock on Friday and he needed it badly. He improves with a run and needed to get one under his belt.
"Buywise will also get an entry although we may look at taking him over hurdles for his next run. We keep trying the same thing with Buywise and it almost works so we might just do something completely different, while I imagine On Tour will get an entry as well.
"I get a lot of enjoyment out of Buywise. I know he frustrates a lot of people but it is a joy to have a horse who keeps running so well in these big races."
The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup entries will be revealed at noon on Wednesday.
