Cawley to see specialist

Alain Cawley is set to see a specialist on Monday over the troublesome left shoulder he dislocated in a fall at Kempton in October.

The Irish-born rider, who is based with Naunton trainer Fergal O'Brien, took a tumble from Surf And Turf at the ninth fence in a handicap chase over two and a quarter miles.

Both shoulders were dislocated and though the right one is back to normal, he damaged the left one more.

"The right one is 100 per cent and has been since before Christmas. The left one I did 80 per cent nerve damage and fractured it as well," he said.

"They are happy the nerves are working and the muscle is firing, it's just pretty locked up at the moment. If it had been like my right one, I would have been back before Christmas.

"I go back to see the specialist on Monday. I've been to Oaksey House at least three or four times a week in the gym and with the physio. There is no date to come back yet, though.

"I was having a good season. I wouldn't have summer trainers to ride for and I said if I got five winners by September I would be flying. I had six in May and 11 by the end of September."
