Blue Point is on course for the Gimcrack Stakes at York

Godolphin have had a change of heart with regard to plans for Blue Point and the juvenile will now run in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes at York next week.

Charlie Appleby was initially keen to step him up in trip at Doncaster after his good run at Glorious Goodwood behind Mehmas.

However, after showing plenty of speed in a gallop at the weekend, he will stick to six furlongs for the time being.

Appleby told www.godolphin.com: "We thought his inexperience had caught him out at Goodwood and that a step up to seven furlongs might suit.

"But watching him again in routine work last Saturday – and discussing it with Willie Ryan, who rides him in his work – this colt has so much natural speed, I think it better to stick to six furlongs for the time being.

"It was the first time he came under pressure in a race and we were just beaten by a more battle-hardened horse. His experience just caught us out, but it is another run under our belt."
