Chase Triple Crown bonus to remain on offer

Britain's Jockey Club have announced that the £1m bonus will remain on offer for any horse that can complete the Chase Triple Crown this season.

The bonus was first introduced as a one-off last season for any horse that could win the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November, the 32Red King George VI Chase at Ascot at Christmas and the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup at the festival.

Colin Tizzard's stable star Cue Card almost landed the prize pot, claiming victory in the first two races before a crashing fall while well in contention at Cheltenham saw Don Cossack take the blue riband at Prestbury Park.

Cue Card would have been only the second horse to complete the feat since the Betfair Chase came into being in 2005 – following in the hoof prints of the legendary Kauto Star.

Paul Fisher, Group Managing Director of Jockey Club Racecourses, said it would be "tremendous for the sport" if a horse could go one better than Cue Card and claim the prize.

Meanwhile, champion trainer Willie Mullins said it "is a serious prize that deserves serious consideration this season."
