Chelmsford hit by power cut
The final race at Chelmsford on Thursday evening had to be abandoned following a power cut at the Essex circuit.
The first six events of the evening took place without incident, but officials were left with no option but to call off proceedings prior to the concluding one-mile-six-furlong handicap.
Andy Waitt, clerk of the course at Chelmsford, said: "We had a fire in the switch room and although we managed to get power back to the main buildings, it burnt out the generator that runs the floodlights.
"As sunset was at 9.10pm, the same time as the last race, we had to abandon on health and safety grounds.
"We're going to have to hold a fairly major investigation into what happened."
