THE popularity of Godolphin's draft continued on from Tattersalls at Arqana's Breeding Stock Sale on Saturday when Chortle sold for €220,000 to agent Neil Jenkinson on behalf of the Hutchins Family's Element Hill in Australia.
A winning daughter of Dubawi, the five-year-old mare is a sister to three-time Group 1 winner Hunter's Light from the Aga Khan's family of Darshaan and Dar Re Mi.
"It's not possible to buy a pedigree like hers down under, so we're delighted to have bought her," Jenkinson said.
Sold in foal to Exceed And Excel, Chortle delivered a filly by New Approach this year. "She will foal down here and then we will see if maybe we'll cover her in southern hemisphere time with someone like Siyouni before taking her down to Australia," the agent added.
Jenkinson was returning to Arqana having bought Mandawara, the dam of early Golden Slipper favourite and Breeders' Plate winner Khan, at the sale in 2010 for €30,000.
David Redvers made his presence felt early in the opening session when picking up Lovely Memory from Godolphin's consignment for €110,000 under the name Hill Farm.
A winning daughter of Shamardal for Saeed Bin Suroor, the four-year-old is out of Grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes winner Folk Opera, who was sold for 240,000gns at Tattersalls last week.
"She's a nice individual and there's not much more that can be said for the moment," Redvers said. "She was a little cheaper than her dam."
Lovely Memory is one of 22 to go under the hammer from the Godolphin draft.
