Chrome ready to roll in Classic

Trainer Art Sherman reports California Chrome "pretty well focused" ahead of the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita.

California Chrome: Ready to roll

The brilliant five-year-old is likely to be sent off a short-priced favourite in his quest to win a seventh race on the bounce and will break from stall four.

Ominously for his rivals, his trainer is adamant California Chrome is as good as he ever has been ahead of the richest race ever run in North America.

Sherman said: "He's more mature, bigger, stronger, and you can see it in the way he's running. He's pretty well focused.

"He's kind of awesome to watch, to be honest with you."

His closest rival would appear to be Arrogate, who won the Travers Stakes by a jaw-dropping 13 and a half lengths on his last outing.

The three-year-old colt, owned by Khalid Abdullah, has been drawn in stall 10.

Trainer Bob Baffert said: "I think he's a horse that is getting better."

Godolphin's big hope, the Kiaran McLaughlin-trained Frosted, is in stall two, while Effinex (one), Keen Ice (three), Win The Space (five), Melatonin (six), War Story (seven), Shaman Ghost (eight) and Hoppertunity (nine) complete the line-up.
