Codd hails hat-trick seeking Fringe

On The Fringe (left): Expected to enjoy the return to Aintree

Jamie Codd is hoping On The Fringe will be revitalised by a return to Aintree when he bids to win the Randox Health Foxhunters' Chase for the third successive year next Thursday.

The 12-year-old has to bounce back from failing in his attempt to land the Cheltenham Foxhunter Chase when he was only fourth to Pacha Du Polder last month.

However, the Enda Bolger-trained gelding is reported in fine form and Codd is looking forward to teaming up with On The Fringe again.

"I was speaking with Enda (on Wednesday morning) and he's very happy with the horse so it is all systems go for Aintree and hopefully the big fences will light him up again and he'll put in a good performance," the top amateur rider told the Irish Herald.

"On another day (at Cheltenham) little things could have went a bit better for On The Fringe, but I still think he has a great chance going back to Aintree.

"I was lucky to get the call up when Nina (Carberry) couldn't ride him at Aintree last year and it was a great day – everything about it.

"Every amateur wants to win an Aintree Foxhunters'. It is something special over the National fences and on a legend of a horse like him."
