GROUP 3-winning sprinter Coulsty will stand at Rathasker Stud in County Kildare for the 2017 breeding season.

The five-year-old son of Kodiac won five races from 25 starts for Richard Hannon snr and his son Richard Hannon, including on his debut in a five furlong maiden at Leicester, the Listed King Charles II Stakes and the Listed King Richard III Stakes.

His biggest victory came in 2014 when he landed the Group 3 Prix de Meautry at Deauville where he beat Gammarth to land the contest by one-and-a-quarter lengths.

Hannon said: "Coulsty has been a pleasure to train, a high-class sprinter. The model of soundness and honesty."

Bred by Peter and Sarah Fortune, Coulsty is the third foal out of the winning In The Wings mare Hazium and is from the family of multiple Group winner Lugana Beach.

He made two trips through the ring prior to his racing career, the first at the Goffs November Foal Sale in 2011 where he was bought by Ballyphilip Stud for €37,000. He was then offered at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2012 where SackvilleDonald parted with 57,000gns to secure him.

Maurice Burns of Rathasker Stud said: "Rathasker is delighted to acquire Coulsty for the 2017 breeding season.

"Coulsty is an exciting commercial prospect for our clients – a high-class Group-winning sprinter, from a family full of speed and precocity with exceedingly good looks to match.

"During his career with the Hannons, Coulsty defeated Group winners Territories, Cable Bay, Ivawood and Markaz."

Ed Sackville added: "Coulsty was a magnificent yearling with size, strength, quality and great movement. He was a precocious two-year-old winning first time out over 5f in May and progressing to win the Group 3 Prix de Meautry over 6f."

Ballyphilip Stud's Paul McCartan said: "Coulsty was a cracking foal – very balanced, standing on great limbs and had a terrific walk. He was an equally nice yearling."

A fee for Coulsty will be announced at a later date.
