Cracksman on course for Dante

Cracksman and Robert Havlin win their maiden at Newmarket.

Cracksman is one of 21 colts still in contention for the Betfred Dante Stakes at York on Thursday.

John Gosden's son of Frankel made an impressive start to his career at Newmarket last October and was successful on his reappearance in last month's Epsom Derby Trial.

He is currently a best-priced 8/1 joint second-favourite for the Investec Derby itself.

Gosden and owner-breeder Anthony Oppenheimer completed the Dante-Derby double with Golden Horn two years ago.

The Clarehaven handler, who also won last year's Dante with Wings Of Desire, could also saddle Monarchs Glen.

Aidan O'Brien has won the race four times and has several contenders for this year's renewal including Belgravia, Exemplar and War Decree.

Other possible runners include David Elsworth's Swiss Storm, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Crystal Ocean and Forest Ranger from Richard Fahey's yard.

Ten fillies and mares have been confirmed for the Betfred Middleton Stakes on the same card.

The Stoute-trained Queen's Trust could make her first appearance since winning the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf last November.

The Freemason Lodge handler has also left in Smart Call, who could make her debut for the yard having struck at the highest level in South Africa on multiple occasions.

Gosden's pair of So Mi Dar and The Black Princess also feature, together with Chain Of Daisies from Henry Candy's yard.
