Cup prep for Stradivarius
John Gosden is considering a tilt at the Qatar Goodwood Cup with his Royal Ascot hero Stradivarius.
The son of Sea The Stars battled gamely to win the Queen's Vase in Berkshire last month and while the St Leger at Doncaster in September is his primary target, he could first take on defending champion and Gold Cup hero Big Orange on the Sussex Downs on August 1.
Gosden said: "He's a horse looking towards the St Leger, obviously.
"He may well go to the Goodwood Cup. He's got a Group Two penalty and it doesn't make a lot of sense to lug a penalty.
"He'll have no trouble with two miles around there. Obviously it's different to a Leger on a galloping track, as (at Goodwood) they twist and turn and go up and down.
"It's a great race, so I think we could look at a Goodwood Cup with him."
The Clarehaven handler has not yet firmed up plans for his exciting filly Laugh Aloud, who remains on the sidelines with a problem that ruled her out of the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at the Royal meeting.
"Unfortunately she came up with a splint. She was taken out on the day of the Duke of Cambridge as it just appeared the night before, which was a bit of a surprise to all of us," Gosden told At The Races.
"I wanted very much to be running in the Falmouth, but unfortunately it hasn't come right.
"We'll be patient with her and there are no immediate plans. It's not a big deal, it's just refusing to settle."
