Daisies too strong for Ulysses

Chain Of Daisies caused a minor surprise as she made every yard of the running to win the Group Three Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor.

Chain Of Daisies: Windsor winner

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Ulysses was sent off the 8-11 favourite for the 10-furlong heat following his victory in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last time out and Ryan Moore was happy to settle near the back of the pack in the early stages.

In contrast, Fergus Sweeney was positive from the off on the confirmed front runner Chain Of Daisies and the 15-2 chance set a reasonable gallop until turning the pace up a notch with a couple of furlongs to run.

The change of gear saw Foundation's challenge drop away while Ayrad also faded back into the pack, allowing Moore to take up his position to challenge on Ulysses.

He moved up with a furlong to run and while Ulysses tried to poke his head in front in the dying strides, the Henry Candy-trained Chain Of Daisies proved ultra-game and clung on for a short head verdict, with Foundation six lengths back in third.
