Dancealot makes late move to win

Sir Dancealot benefited from a drop in trip by producing a neat turn of foot to claim Listed honours in the Rockingham Stakes at York.

Winning trainer David Elsworth

Twice a winner over seven furlongs after being beaten over this trip of six furlongs on his racecourse debut, David Elsworth's juvenile was held up in last place by Shane Kelly.

Stopped in his tracks over two furlongs out, Kelly had to switch Sir Dancealot to make his challenge as Dance Of Dreams and Perfect Angel tried to kick away.

Once in the clear, Sir Dancealot (6/1) showed a decisive burst of speed to go and seal the prize by three-quarters of a length from Dream Of Dreams.

Kelly said: "He didn't have a great draw and I thought I'd go left out of the gates.

"I was short of room midway race but once he got clear I knew I was going to win."

Elsworth's travelling head lad Peter Maughan said: "Bringing him back to six was the key. We thought six would be better for him.

"He stays seven but he's got a lot of speed. He was in a bit of trouble at one stage, but he quickened well. He's a lovely horse."
