DARIYAN, winner of this year's Prix Ganay, will take up stallion duties at the Aga Khan's Haras de Bonneval in France for the 2017 breeding season.
An Aga Khan homebred, the four-year-old son of Shamardal is the first foal out of the Group 1-winning Selkirk mare Daryakana and is a half-brother to the Listed winner Darabad.
Trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre, he made his debut at Longchamp over 1m2f as a three-year-old where he finished a short-neck second behind Vision Des Aigles.
He then went on to win three times at three including in the Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam at Maisons-Laffitte. He rounded off his campaign with a third-placed finish behind Highland Reel in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase.
On his seasonal reappearance this year, he finished second behind Postponed in the Group 2 Dubai City Of Gold. After placing sixth in the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic he returned to winning ways with a one and a quarter length success in the Prix Ganay.
Dariyan is one of 18 Group 1 scorers for his sire Shamardal and is the first Aga Khan Studs bred colt retired to stud since Siyouni joined the roster in 2011.
He is currently being syndicated for his stallion career and a fee has yet to be announced.
