Dartnall eyeing Ayr for Shadow
Dancing Shadow is likely to be aimed at the Coral Scottish Grand National at Ayr on April 22 after showing stamina was his forte at Musselburgh on Saturday.
Victor Dartnall: Trainer of Dancing Shadow.
The eight-year-old made light work of the extended four miles of the bet365 Edinburgh National after the 460-mile trip from the Barnstaple base of trainer Victor Dartnall.
Dartnall seized the opportunity of running Dancing Shadow on his preferred good ground and will continue to lookout for similar conditions.
The JT McNamara National Hunt Challenge Cup Chase at Cheltenham on March 14 and the Betfred Midlands National at Uttoxeter four days later are possibilities in the meantime, but Ayr is the main objective.
"He's a real out-and-out stayer and loves good ground," said Dartnall.
"We pulled him out this morning and could hardly hold him.
"We're really pleased with him. I always thought that stamina would be his strong point.
"He took a long time to win his first race (at Doncaster in December). He was unlucky and had a lot of soft ground. He wants good ground.
"He's got an entry in the National Hunt Chase, but whether he'll be good enough it depends.
"He'll be put in the Midlands National if there is any chance of the ground being right for him.
"There's the Scottish National and that will probably be his long-term target. It would be nice to get a run into him before then."
