De Sousa on target in France
Silvestre de Sousa's hot streak continued in France on Wednesday when he won the Group Three Prix Daphnis for Andre Fabre at Maisons Laffitte on Last Kingdom.
A son of Frankel, Last Kingdom was winning his third race in succession and took the notable scalp of Spotify, who finished fourth in the French 2000 Guineas last time out.
Spotify had the rail to help him inside the final furlong but Last Kingdom gamely stuck his neck out to win by a neck.
British jockeys' championship leader De Sousa has been carrying all before him of late and was riding the winner due to his contract with owner Prince Faisal.
Ted Voute, racing manager for the owner, said: "You could really see how much he wanted to win.
"Andre has taken tiny steps with him and it is now starting to pay off. I think that has benefited him mentally more than anything.
"On previous form he's done very well to beat the second who wasn't far behind Brametot and Le Brivido in the Guineas.
"We're undecided where he'll go next, that was over an extended mile and we could be tempted to take another step up the ladder for a Group Two and it's possible he could go up in trip."
