Dettori out of Royal Ascot

Frankie Dettori won't ride at Royal Ascot this week

Frankie Dettori will miss Royal Ascot with an arm injury he suffered in a fall last week.

Dettori was injured in a paddock fall at Yarmouth last Tuesday but returned to ride Shutter Speed in the French Oaks on Sunday.

Agent Ray Cochrane said on Tuesday morning that Dettori would miss his four opening-day rides but a statement from Dettori soon after confirmed that he would be absent for the entire meeting.

Dettori had been due to partner the flying Lady Aurelia in the King's Stand Stakes and American Patriot for US trainer Todd Pletcher in the opening Queen Anne Stakes.

Dettori said: "I've been trying so hard to get fit for today but had to accept this morning that it wasn't going to happen.

"I've got to have physio and get it properly looked at so won't be at Ascot this week.

"For me, that is soul destroying as it is the most important week of the year. I'll be counting the days until next year."

John Velazquez has been confirmed as Dettori's replacement aboard the Wesley Ward-trained Lady Aurelia and he will also team up with Nootka Sound in the Windsor Castle Stakes.

Velazquez's original Windsor Castle ride Elizabeth Darcy will now be partnered by Edgar Prado.

Dettori was due to ride El Vip in Wednesday's Royal Hunt Cup and Luca Cumani has already confirmed his replacement in Jamie Spencer.
