DUAL Group 1-winning mare Srikandi is set for a date with Australian sire Snitzel later this season having been retired from racing.

Trained by Ciaron Maher, the six-year-old daughter of Dubawi won nine of her starts including at the highest level in the Stradbroke Handicap and the Tattersall’s Club Tiara.

Out of the winning Hurricane Sky mare Raining, Srikandi is a half-sister to Group 3 heroine Rain Gal and is from the family of Group 1 scorer Pontormo.

Shares totaling 31 per cent were recently sold in the mare with Greg Ingham – a major owner in Chautauqua – purchasing 15 per cent. Srikandi is owned by a group of seven owners.

Srikandi will take up residency at Kitchwin Hills in New South Wales and farm manager Mick Malone said: “We’re delighted Srikandi’s owners have decided to send her to Kitchwin Hills, where she will join a long list of outstanding broodmare talent.

“She was one hell of a racehorse, but she’s also got a stellar pedigree to boot, which makes it even more exciting. Being a daughter of Dubawi is also a major bonus, as it opens up so many avenues when you consider the number of Danehill and Danehill line stallions in Australia.”

Snitzel, a 14-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice who stands at Arrowfield Stud, is the sire of Group 1 performers Wandjina, Hot Snitzel, Shamus Award and Sizzling.

He is currently standing the 2016 Australian breeding season at a fee of A$110,00 (£65,476/€75,431).
