Easterby lands birthday four-timer

Tim Easterby enjoyed a superb evening at Carlisle with a four-timer from four runners on what was the Great Habton trainer's 55th birthday.

Tim Easterby: Birthday four-timer

Southern Strife is bred to win races as a brother to former 2000 Guineas runner-up Dubawi Gold and got the ball rolling with his first success under Flat Rules in the ApolloBet Daily Racing Refunds Handicap.

Useful as a young horse in bumpers for John Ferguson, he was picked up cheaply by Easterby and might develop into a decent dual-purpose performer in time, although his immediate future appears on the level.

Racing off the pace set by Taking Libertys, the 9-1 winner was driven to get on terms a furlong out and ultimately ground the long-time leader down for a three-quarters of a length success under David Allan.

Easterby said: "It's fantastic, we'd had 10 seconds in six days. They'd done nothing and we had a winner on Saturday night. The horses have been running great all year. It's grand.

"They were in the right races tonight and Carlisle has been a lucky track for me."

Of Southern Strife, he added: "He's a very nice horse, we bought him at the sales 18 months ago and only gave #3,500 for him. It's taken time and we've been very patient with him.

"I don't know about jumping, we might stay on the Flat and go a bit further with him."

Likely favourite Romantic View got loose and was withdrawn from the second race, to leave just two for the ApolloBet Home Of Cashback Offers Fillies' Novice Stakes.

The last two-year-old contest at the track had been a match and so it proved again, as 11-10 favourite Appointed made all to give Easterby and Allan a double.

Easterby's treble came through Kenny The Captain (4-1) in the ApolloBet Online Casino And Games Handicap.

The Rachel Richardson-ridden five-year-old had been second in the race 12 months ago and went one better with a half-length call on the far rail over Penny Pot Lane.

It was four for the trainer and three for Allan when 7-2 favourite Alpine Dream stayed on relentlessly from the two-furlong pole to land the ApolloBet Bet Through Your Mobile Handicap.
