THE eighth edition of the World Arabian Horse Racing Conference, WAHRC, will be held in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh from May 1 – 7 next year.

The event will be hosted under the banner of HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival.

Executive director of the festival, Lara Sawaya, made the announcement on Friday during the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX).

She said: "Marrakesh is deeply embedded in history and culture and there could be no better place than this to host the Arabian horse racing conference".

Currently being developed is a unified database of information on Purebred Arabian Racing, in response to overwhelming demand from the Arabian racing industry.

Plans are in place to unveil this innovation at Marrakech, which Sawaya said "will go a long way in the promotion of Purebred Arabian horse racing."

In contrast to the change of venue for WAHRC, the 2017 Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Darley Awards will remain at the historical Kodak Studio in Hollywood, taking place on March 31.

It is set to be an action packed weekend with the associated race meeting "being held on the Santa Anita Racecourse on April 1, 2017 and like last year $100,000 will be donated to the disabled jockeys".

Sawaya added: "$25,000 will be dedicated to disabled jockeys in New Jersey, a new venue in the coming season and $10,000 to the welfare of retired race horses."

New innovations seemed to be the theme of the day when it was further announced that Dr. Matea Polisoto, who specialises in naturopathy medicine, aromatherapy and sound healing, will be joining the team to give nutritional advice to the participating jockeys.
