THE well-backed Airlie Beach led home a one-two for Willie Mullins in a dramatic renewal of this Grade 1 contest, with 6-4 favourite and leading Supreme Novices' Hurdle fancy Peace News crashing out at the second-last flight when still in with a chance.
Airlie Beach, who extended her unbeaten record to seven, looked the likely winner at the time of Peace News's departure and justified the late plunge which saw her sent off at 4-1 having been a double-figure price in the morning.
Saturnas followed the impressive winner home six and a half lengths behind in second, while Le Martalin was two and three-quarter lengths further back.
Airlie Beach, who was ridden by Danny Mullins and is owned by the Supreme Racing Club, was made 7-2 favourite from 8-1 by Paddy Power for the Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, while Mullins is only 5-1 with the same firm to train a one-two-three in the race.
How the race was won
There was drama from the outset as the talented but quirky Labaik refused at the start under Barry Geraghty.
Airlie Beach and Le Martalin cut out much of the early running, while Peace News, under Bryan Cooper, raced in third a few lengths off the pace.
Peace News was asked to make his move turning for home but, while he was responding, he looked to have a bit on his plate at the time of his departure as Airlie Beach was still a couple of lengths to the good and galloping on strongly.
