Fillies’ Mile on Sobetsu agenda
Charlie Appleby could give impressive Newmarket maiden winner Sobetsu a considerable hike in grade for a shot at the Dubai Fillies' Mile on October 7.
Charlie Appleby: High hopes for improving filly
The Newmarket handler has earmarked the Group One contest at the Dubai Future Champions Festival as the next port of call for the two-year-old, who is as short as 20/1 for next year's Qipco 1000 Guineas.
After finished third at the July Course on her debut, the daughter of Dubawi put that experience to good use when demolishing her rivals by 10 lengths upped to a mile on Saturday.
Appleby said: "We were delighted with her first run and the form of that race has stood up well.
"We thought she would run a nice race on her first start. She just got a little outpaced, then stayed on nicely so the natural progression was to step her up to a mile.
"She could not have been visually more impressive. She didn't lose any weight after it and took it very well.
"We think a bit of her both for this year and next year, given her given her size and pedigree. She should get a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half.
"She is in the Fillies' Mile which is just short of three weeks away and we will make a decision in about 10 days' time.
"If she doesn't go there we will pull up stumps and put her away for the year."
