THE LAST of the six new sets of silks offered for auction by the BHA, which failed to sell when originally put up for sale, have been purchased for £3,250.

One of six jazzy designs, the purple offering with a silver horseshoe as its centrepiece initially failed to capture the imagination of would-be owners.

However, following a number of inquiries after the end of the original auction, the silks were offered again, with the same £3,000 reserve in place.

The new designs included flames and multicoloured spots, as well as a striking rainbow pattern and BHA spokesman Robin Mounsey welcomed the sale of the final set.

"We're very pleased to see that all six sets of silks have now been sold and over £33,000 raised," he said.

"It was notable that as soon as news came out that the silks had not sold in the original auction that we received contact from various sources expressing an interest in purchasing the colours.

"We'll factor all this in to our learnings from this exercise, which was intended as a trial."
