First win for Mosse at Goodwood

Jockey Gerald Mosse

Chris Wall's 16/1 chance looked home and hosed under Gerald Mosse, but last season's Cambridgeshire winner Spark Plug flew home at the death, with only a nose in it at the line.

Spark Plug's jockey Jamie Spencer went one better in the Tapster Stakes aboard the Roger Charlton-trained Second Step.

Formerly trained by Luca Cumani, the six-year-old made his debut for Charlton when a promising third in last month's John Porter Stakes at Newbury.

The 7/2 chance travelled well throughout this mile-and-a-half contest and had enough in the tank to see off 2/1 joint-favourite Desert Encounter by half a length.
